The Mary occurrence is located south of the Quesnel River and northwest of Jackpine Lake.

Regionally, the area is located within the central Quesnel Trough. The area is underlain by Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic sedimentary and mafic to felsic volcanic rocks. This sequence has been intruded by small alkalic stocks of diorite to syenite compositions. This sedimentary and volcanic assemblage is correlative with the Nicola Group.

Mineralization occurs associated with Early to Middle Jurassic monzonite and syenodiorite bodies that have intruded Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic Nicola Group volcanic rocks. Minor amounts of secondary copper minerals occur in fractures within basalt near intrusive rocks. Malachite and azurite occur infrequently in Upper Triassic basalts associated with intrusive rocks throughout the central Quesnel Belt. It is not known whether the copper mineralization of this occurrence is related to monzonitic intrusions or whether it was deposited before the monzonite was emplaced.

The property was staked as the Pine Group in 1968. A geochemical survey during 1968 outlined two anomalous areas. One anomaly was approximately 135 metres wide by 390 metres long; the other anomaly was 90 by 180 metres in size and was thought to be an extension of the first. In 2011, Eagle Peak Resources completed a program of geological mapping and rock and soil sampling on the area as the QR South property. In 2013, Barkerville Gold Mines soil sampled the area as the QR claims.
